Advocacy

Physician

As government and the insurance industry continue their quest to control health care, your clinical autonomy is in jeopardy. Now more than ever, you need to fight and advocate to keep medical decisions in your well-trained hands.

Fortunately, you do not have to wage the fight alone. Successful legislative advocacy depends upon an integrated approach, consisting of lobbying, continuing grassroots activity and political action locally through the Fresno Madera Medical Society Political Action Committee and for the state through California Medical Association Political Action Committee (CALPAC).

Operated by physicians, for physicians, MEDPAC and CALPAC supports hundreds of candidates for state and federal office who share our philosophy and vision of the future of health care and medical practice.

Fresno Madera Medical Society (FMMS) and the California Medical Association's (CMA) policies guide our political, legislative, regulatory, legal and economic advocacy. Each policy is crafted and reviewed by physician members - and then voted on by elected physician representatives and adopted by the House of Delegates and CMA Board of Trustees.

    House of Delegate Information

The California Medical Association's (CMA) House of Delegates (HOD) consists of nearly 500 delegates elected by members of component medical societies, specialty societies, and CMA sections and forums, representing virtually every mode of practice and region of the state.

CMA’s House of Delegates convenes annually to debate on the most important issues affecting members, the Association, and the practice of medicine. Actionable reports on those topics are presented and debated, and educational speakers are often invited to provide additional insight. The House also addresses any other issues referred to it by the Board of Trustees, including any changes to the Bylaws, matters regarding charters, etc. During Annual Session, the House elects officers, honors members for their service, and receives important updates about the activities of the Association in the past year.

    Legislative Hot List

The California Medical Association’s (CMA) Legislative Hot List summarizes the status of CMA-sponsored bills, as well as the progress of other significant health care legislation. The Hot List represents a small sampling of the hundreds of bills CMA follows during each legislative session.

For more information on a specific bill, please contact the lobbyist identified at the end of each bill summary. Legislative Hot List
